There’s nothing better than eating a hot meal while backpacking. Unfortunately, most standard cookware is too heavy to take on our backpacking adventure. That’s why it’s important to have a lightweight backpacking cook set.
Titanium is a great material for backpacking cookware. Titanium pots have the strength and durability stainless steel pots but with the lower weight of aluminum cookware. Plus titanium makes for a virtually non-stick pot without Teflon or another non-stick coating, and to top it off, it’s corrosion-resistant as well.
All of that makes titanium one of our favorite materials for camping cookware. In this review, we’ll cover our picks for the best backpacking cookware made of titanium.
Let’s get started.
Best Titanium Backpacking Cookware
- TOAKS Light Titanium 550ml Pot (Ultralight Version)
- TOAKS Titanium 1600ml Pot with Pan
- Snow Peak Multi Compact Cookset
- Lixada Camping Titanium Cookware Set
1. TOAKS Light Titanium 550ml Pot
The TOAKS Light Titanium Pot is an excellent canister style pot that’s great for ultralight backpacking.
In fact, this ultralight pot weighs just 2.6 ounces (including the pot lid!), making it the lightest set on this list. However, with a just 550ml capacity (a little over two cups) it’s truly minimalist.
It can also be used as a mug and is best for boiling water for drinks or dehydrated meals for one or two people, rather than true cooking, particularly for larger groups. It’s also good for hikers who want to be able to take a break on the trail and make a hot meal or beverage.
Fortunately, TOAKS also offers these posts in 650ml and 700ml sizes, which offer a bit more versatility. All three of these pots are lightweight versions of TOAKS’s traditional titanium cookware, which makes them ideal for backpacking.
The build quality is impressive, although the pot is only 0.3mm thick, so you may experience some denting if you’re not careful. It comes with a lid and has folding handles.
To sum up, the Toaks Light 550ml pot is the perfect titanium pot for solo backpackers or pairs of backpackers who want to travel light. It offers great value for the money and allows for a number of different uses. Personally, I like to use this pot for cooking and eating hot soup in the winter months.
2. TOAKS Titanium 1600ml Pot with Pan
Another item from TOAKS, this is our best titanium pot and pan set for backpacking.
This set features a larger pot, plus a fry pan that can also be used as a lid for the pot. The design also features handles that fold away against the body of the pot and pans. The foldable handles are larger than the ones on the last set, making it easier to move this pot and pan around.
Furthermore, it comes with a durable nylon stuff sack that keeps the cookware in great condition.
The cooking pot can hold 1600ml of liquid when filled to the max (a little over 6 and a half cups), which is impressive when you realize that the pot weighs just 8.2 ounces when carried in the pouch. In fact, you can even use the space inside the pot to store helpful essentials like towels, a fuel canister, a pot gripper, cutlery, or even a small backpacking stove while not in use.
The frying pan can hold 490ml of liquid, although you probably won’t be using it to boil water.
To sum up, there’s a reason why the top two products in this list are from TOAKS. They offer well-built titanium cookware that is lightweight and at a respectable price point. This pot set is ideal for backpackers who want to be able to cook and fry a variety of meals.
3. Snow Peak Multi Compact Cookset
This large titanium camping cookware set is highly-portable and high-quality.
The Snow Peak Titanium Multi Compact includes two pots and two pans, which is ideal for cooking up large meals while backpacking. In fact, this is our best titanium cookware set for families and group backpacking. Now, this quality comes at a cost, but we think it is worth it for those who go backpacking on a regular basis.
Specifically, the set comes with a 0.8L pot, a 1L pot, a 6″ pan, and a 5.3″ pan. This may seem like a lot to carry, but the whole set fits neatly inside a mesh carry bag, with the smaller pot fitting inside the larger one. The cookpots’ handles fold to fit flush against the side of the pots, while the handles on the pans fold underneath for compact storage.
This is the heaviest backpacking cookware set on our list, but that’s to be expected since it also has the most pieces. In fact, the whole camping pot combo set weighs just 10.6 ounces!
A little tip – the set fits together nicely, but there can still be some rattling as you walk. We recommend putting some cloth between the pots to stop this happening.
To sum up, this titanium set isn’t the best for cooking delicious meals (no titanium cookware is), but it is the best ultralight cookware for backpacking, especially for small groups of people.
4. Lixada Camping Titanium Cookware Set
This is an affordable titanium cookware set for backpacking. You get a pot, cup, and spork.
With the Lixado Camping Titanium Cookware set, you get a 750ml pot, 420ml cup, and spork. This gives you everything you need for cooking meals and drinking hot drinks. Although you get three pieces of high-quality titanium, this set is very affordable.
In regards to portability, the spork fits inside the cup, which then fits inside the pot. The set of cookware also has collapsible handles. This innovative design means you’ll be saving plenty of space in your backpack. In fact, it can be slipped into the corner of the bag or clipped to the outside via the mesh storage bag.
To sum up, the Lixado Camping Titanium Cookware set is ideal for solo or couple backpackers. It is also great for those who want a reliable titanium cookware set, but don’t want to fork out mega bucks.
Final Thoughts On Titanium Backpacking Cookware
Titanium, like stainless steel, is prone to hot spots, so it’s not great for serious cooking. For car camping and other times when you don’t have to worry so much about weight, there are better materials, like cast iron.
But for backpackers and other backcountry campers, titanium is great, balancing durability and weight, with the added advantage of an almost nonstick surface. With so many titanium backpacking cooking sets on the market, it can be hard to pick just for your needs. Fortunately, each of these cooksets makes a great addition to your backpacking gear.
You’ll just need to think about the size you require, how much weight you’re willing to allocate for cookware, and the type of food and drinks you will be heating — among other things — to decide the best one for your next backpacking trip.
Each of the four titanium cook sets in this review has been chosen because they are the top for their specific purpose. For example, the TOAKS Light Titanium 550ml Pot is ideal for soup, whereas the Lixada Camping Titanium Cookware Set is perfect for families.
Of course, you’ll also need a solid camp stove to go with your pot. All of the stoves on our Best Gas Camping Stoves list are great, but they’re more oriented towards car campers. For backpackers, we recommend more lightweight options like the GSI Outdoors Pinnacle Canister Alcohol Stove or the MSR WhisperLite Multifuel Backpacking Stove.
