Arctic Oven Tent Review – Extreme 8 10 12

Arctic Oven Tent Summary

In this Arctic Oven tent review, we will be looking at the pros and cons of one of the most popular tents for staying warm in winter conditions. In fact, this tent is used in Alaska and Antarctica, so it’s ideal for cold weather camping.

With that said, we will be discussing the Extreme version in this review. We will give specifics for all the different sizes (8, 10, and 12). Artic Oven

Who Is the Arctic Oven for?

In short, the Arctic Oven is a four-season tent that’s ideal for camping in sub-zero temperatures. It comes in a range of sizes. For example, the Arctic 8 is a one to two-person tent, while the Arctic 12 can handle up to six or seven people.

The Arctic Oven Extreme range of tents isn’t the cheapest on the market. They are serious tents for serious campers. They’re intended for camping in extreme weather, like the heavy snow and cold of the Alaskan wilderness. As such, they are suited for individuals who want the best of the best. However, if you haven’t got the budget then you can view our top cold-weather tents.

The tents are heavy, so they’re more suited for base camps than for backpacking adventures. The Arctic Extreme 12 weighs 63lb! Although this is to be expected for a tent of this size and durability.

  • Strong and durable

Materials & Weather Protection

We have established that this is a great tent for cold weather, but what materials does it use to do this? Well, the Arctic Oven uses innovative Vapex material for the tent body. This material insulates well, whilst also allowing condensation to escape, making it ideal for winter camping.

Alongside the high-quality inner tent walls, you will find a durable rain fly made from urethane-coated 200D oxford nylon. This heavy-duty material is tough as old boots and will prevent water from leaking into the tent. To further prevent leaks, the floor has a bathtub design with sealed seams.

The tent also has additional tiedown locations for more security to help it hold up to high winds. You can also get a footprint, or ground sheet, to protect the nylon floor of the tent from ice and debris underneath the tent.

Stove

Like, all good tents for extreme weather, the Oven is a tent with a stove jack. This is positioned on the tent ceiling, allowing you to connect a tent stove pipe. This isn’t just a hole in the tent, the jack has a non-burnable layer so that your tent material isn’t damaged from the heat. In fact, all tent materials are fire resistant.

You can use either propane stoves or wood stoves within this tent. Click here for our recommend tent wood stoves.

Storage

Unlike some other Arctic Oven models, the Extreme models don’t have a vestibule. This does limit some of the storage options. However, this tent features steep walls to help create more usable interior space to contain all of your camping gear, like your stove, trainers, backpack, and clothing. There are also built-in utility loops and storage pockets within the tent for storage and organization.

Exactly how much storage you get depends on which tent size you choose. The Arctic Oven 8 Extreme provides 60 square feet of usable floor space, while the 10 Extreme provides 90 square feet and the 12 Extreme provides 152 square feet.

Arctic Oven also sells attics and gear lines for this steep-wall tent for additional overhead storage.

Verdict

We hope this Arctic Oven Extreme review has helped you to gain a better perspective of this winter camping tent. To sum up, for cold weather camping this is the best of the best. It is available in a number of different sizes, so you can find the perfect one for your needs. With that said, the price is rather high.
